Video Conversion With Easy Freeware

You have a video file, either from your camcorder or some other source and you need to convert it to another format. What do you do? You need a converter!
There are many free video converters available. I have assembled a list of a few of my favorites.
You can download these free and use them to convert from one file to another. Each one has different capabilities so choose the one you feel will do the best for you.

EncodeHD is an easy to use video converter with a no-fuss interface, that enables you to convert your video files to a variety of home video and portable formats (with support for H.264 encoding), including AppleTV, YouTube HD, iPod, iPhone, PSP, XBox, Zune, Blackberry and others. Simply select one of the pre-configured profiles, load one or more video files and click a button to convert. iPodME is an easy to use tool that lets you convert video files to iPod format. It does not require installation and includes all necessary codecs. The program provides you with a choice of speed vs.quality presets and popular resolutions as well as an option to customize the (x264 or Xvid) encoder settings. Other features aspect ratio adjustments, batch conversion with optional PC shutdown and process priority settings. iPodME also supports subtitle and can take advantage of multiple processors.

WinX Free DVD to PSP Ripper enables you rip an convert your personal DVD movies so that they can be played on your PSP. You can clip a video segment to extract, change the frame rate and optionally add subtitles. The program can also create a snapshot from a selected video frame and save it as .THM file for thumbnail display on your PSP.

MediaCoder also includes MPlayer for video playback. The program is optimized for multi-core processors.

DivX for Windows includes the codec and player that enables you to watch movies that were optimized with DivX compression technology. This download provides you with everything you need to play DiVX files for free. DivX for Windows also includes a trial version of DiVX Pro, which allows you to convert video to DiVX and use the Pro codec instead of the free one.

The program also includes an option that allows you to download videos from many popular websites (YouTube, MetaCafe, iFilm etc.). Internet Video Converter is not overly user friendly but video conversions work well.

Also included comes a (very basic) FLV player that you can use to preview the converted video. EasyFLV uses FFMPEG for video conversion.

Blackberry Video Converter is a MPlayer front-end that allows you to convert most popular video formats to an AVI file formatted for the Blackberry device. The package includes the encoding engine and everything you need to convert your files. Blackberry Video Converter also supports DVD conversion, however this feature is under development and may not work consistently. The program works with Blackberry Perl, 8800 and Bold.

Jodix Free iPod Video Converter enables you to convert popular video formats to iPod video. It provides a simple and easy to use interface, just select the file(s) to convert and click a button. You can optionally change output quality and video size as well. The program supports AVI, MPEG, WMV, RM, RMVB, DivX, ASF, and VOB formats.

Check one or all of those out and find the one you like. Conversion need not be a hassle, most of these are intuitive and easy to use. I have used several and find that conversions from one format to another is a breeze. ;-)
